Maxi fever

Maybe it's because I'm having some serious thigh issues at the moment (or should that be serious cupcake issues? It's close to an addiction.), or the wide range of designs available, but I feel like it's time for me to buy a great summer maxi.

I can't see any disadvantage: they look effortlessly cool even without accessories, there's NO issues with flashing, and they flatter everyone!

Here are some of my favourite looks on celebrities:

I do love a bit of tie-dye, and these maxi dress looks cool and summery, and suits Lauren and Vanessa's petite frames. Simple, wavy hair and a pendant necklace emphasize the simplicity of the look.

Hayden Panettiere proves that maxi dresses can suit short girls! Plain gladiators make for a casual, relaxed outfit.

The paisley print and long sleeves make for a 70s style hippy dress, with a waist tie to add definition.

However us normal people can also get a piece of the action, for a fraction of the price:
I love the Hawaiian-style print on this dress from Topshop for a very reasonable £30!

This is a sleek, pretty design: I love the lace detail around the neckline. From Oasis at Asos, £50.

Another Oasis creation, with a 70s look similar to Nicole Richie's style. I love the bluey-purple colour scheme, so I will definitely be picking this up the second I have £80 to spare :o

Peace out!

Topshop make up

I'm no make up reviewer, but in my opinion the Topshop make up looks pretty impressive. Using the site's virtual makeover, I conclude that the foundation offers perfect coverage, and the skin glow is really quite magical! I love the nail colours, my favourite being the two featured here: Gypsy Night and Bees Knees, and the eyeshadow combos: the one here is Midnight in Paris. I will definitely be checking them out in real life as soon as possible! If anyone has personal experience, feel free to comment with your own review!

Frocking brilliant!

One of my new favourite shows on TV: Frock me! So brilliant, and not only because the fashion blogger  who judged a section of the show (Selina, from The Flying Saucer) was wearing my new item in my wardrobe, the lace biker jacket (on the far right)!

I love Alexa Chung, and Henry Holland (although the lack of animation in his voice is unbelievable!) and they always seem to interview either my girl crushes (Olivia Palermo, Paloma Faith) or the people I love to hate (Taylor "I don't like people copying me yet I will take money to front a campaign for New Look" Momsen)

So this week, the look the Frock Me team talked about was Americana. It's been creeping upon us in many forms: cowboy, sporty chic, double denim, crop tops.... you see my point?

Topshop really seem to be commandeering these looks on the British high street, with some really gorgeous items:
My friend has just bought this jacket and I can see why: it combines two of the trends, sporty and denim. £45.
Topshop have also adapted the typical American sports team tops:

The vest is £16, the jumper £25 and the crop top £18. My favourite is the jumper, due to my current obsession with that mint green colour!

OMFG how amazing are these shorts? I really am in love with them, they're the coolest shorts I've ever seen IN MY LIFE!£32.
Another trend is varsity jackets: I can smugly say that I got hold of one from a vintage fair loooong before the trend surfaced! :D If you're not as cool as me however, one of the best ones available is coincidentally by Henry Holland at Debenhams, for £45.

One of the things I love about this trend is that it really is completely wide open to interpretation: you could go full on sportswear, just hint at a homage to the wild west or even just go for a simple crop top and jeans combo, and I certainly will be trying all three, and more, possibilities!

See y'all around :) xx

DON'T JUDGE ME!

Due to a series of unfortunate events, this Sunday my friends and I went to see 'The Last Song'. I could go into it now as I'm still pretty mad at Odeon, but I'm sure it would be so utterly boring that halfway through the first sentence you would all exit this page and never return.
During the film, instead of listening to the dialogue and getting caught up in the story, as usual I spent most of the film thinking about Miley Cyrus's various outfits. And I approved.

So as I am a gift sent from God for you, I've been searching online for some items to help you get Miley's look.
Urban Outfitters, now £7.99
Topshop, £35

back from egypt...

... and feeling chilly. It's around 30 degrees there and I'm not loving the temperature change. However, the holiday was definitely an education for me. I can't believe how different everything is over there.

That leads me on very nicely and *ahem* completely accidentally to my next point. Watching the Baftas last night, I really enjoyed watching the excerpts of 'An Education'. Not only did they make me laugh, but also I loooooved Carey Mulligan's wardrobe. Before now, I've been a firm follower of the 50s and the 80s but the costume design in this film has led me to a new love for all things 60s!

Sooo I decided to do a get the look style thingy of some of the looks from the film.
Oh how I love a nice duffle coat! You can find a similar one in Topshop for £70.

These relatively simple earrings add class and maturity to the look, and work really well with a classic 60s beehive! This pair are from Miss Selfridge and cost just £6.

I just love this photo in general, especially the coordination with Carey and Rosamund's outfits. You can get a coat just like Rosamund Pike's from Motel for £110. A bit pricey compared to the clothes I usually feature but I figure it's an investment: faux fur coats always look sophisticated, and on the odd occassion when they do fall out of fashion you can rest assured with the knowledge that Vogue will announce a fur comeback very soon.

Finally, the beautiful dress that Carey wears while visiting Paris... The blue looks gorgeous on her and I'm a firm and loyal believer in all things floral! Topshop currently have several floral skater dresses in stock, this one with lilac rosebuds (£32) is my favourite, and definitely on my summer wishlist!
Right well I'm off to huddle in a corner with a duvet and a hot water bottle now! xxx

QUICK ONE

ahhhh super-cuteness, it even has little tiny diamante studs on it. Pure art form in a cross body bag, arghhhh  the clutch to open it is the stalk of the apple! I think it's true love. Topshop, £30.

Go forth and buy, my lovelies. xxx

OWL TIME

A brilliant trend that can be interpreted in so many different ways.... for a super cutesy look try one of these fuzzy owls.

Temporary:Secretary rocks! They're £8.50 each, and my favourite is.. ahhhh just can't decide! I think the black one. What about you?

This little owl is perfect for the uber-fashionable... just look at the pretty little stones! Topshop, £8.

And again with the gorgeous stones! This one might possibly be my favourite, I love the branch so much! Love Hearts and Crosses, £12. And remember, you can get a discount with the discount code ELLAAPPAREL.

This is the edgiest member of my owlery, and perfect for any rock chicks! It's a longline chain, which I love, and it's even 3D! Asos, £6.

The best feature of this one from Promod is that it's in 5 parts, for a relaxed, boho look and costs £12.

WOW this one will really make a statement. Not only is there a vintage silver effect, and stunning blue eyes, but also the size is amazing! This is £15, and also from Love Hearts and Crosses.

Right well I'm going to flutter off (see what I did there? Funny, huh? Ok, fine, no more jokes.) and buy one of these... hmmm now to decide which one.... do you think it would be unreasonable for me to buy every last one? Nah, definitely not. xxx

VELVET <3

Now I was dubious about the velvet trend when I first heard about it... but as I've seen it be picked up by more high street stores, who've made it wearable, I've been completely persuaded!
The leader of the velvet bandwagon is Topshop.. they've picked it up as a major trend.
I love skater dresses, and this black one for £38 is perfect! Unfortunately it's only available in a size 6 :(

Also from Topshop is this gorgeous blue clutch, I really like the cameo and bow details. This one costs £35, a bit expensive but IT'S SO PRETTY!

Oh, I do love a good alice band... This one from Miss Selfridge has a gorgeous rich berry colour and is the perfect size, for only £6! Love it!

This bodycon dress from Missguided brilliantly pairs the extreme classiness of velvet with the edginess of studs, and again with a beautiful blue colour. It costs £19.99, and is currently sold out but should be coming back in stock soon!

This dress from Asos is £32 and looks beautiful! I really love the tight bandeau top with the voluminous skirt. It's available in two colours and I personally just can't chose.... the bright pink or the more understated nude colour????

See you soon my lovelies xoxo
